1. Leading Off
Seattle’s defense put together a dominant performance, completely shutting down New England’s No. 2-ranked scoring offense in a 29-13 win in Super Bowl LX. And after starting this season with 60-1 odds to win the title, the Seahawks won’t catch anyone by surprise next year, opening as the favorite to become repeat champions.
The Rams begin with the second-best odds (+800) to win Super Bowl LXI in their home stadium on Valentine’s Day, followed by two teams that just made unexpected coaching changes: the Ravens and Bills (both at +1200). The Patriots aren’t getting much respect, as they have the 10th-best odds to follow their unimpressive Super Bowl showing last night with a win next season.
On the MVP front, sportsbooks expect the Buffalo’s coaching change to help Bills quarterback Josh Allen win the award for the second time (+600). He’s followed by fellow quarterbacks Lamar Jackson (+750), Drake Maye (who is still +850 despite his struggles yesterday), Joe Burrow (+1000), Justin Herbert (+1100), Patrick Mahomes (+1100), Dak Prescott (+1300), and this year’s MVP Matthew Stafford (+1400).
With the NFL season officially coming to a close, we’re taking a breather for the first time in nearly two years to get ready for everything ahead. Don’t worry, Sportspage isn’t going away. Look for the newsletter in your inbox each Thursday morning with analysis, scouting reports, betting trends, and the storylines that matter as we gear up for March Madness, the NBA Playoffs, World Cup, MLB, and more.

No. 1 Arizona Starts Toughest Stretch of Season at No. 11 Kansas

Brayden Burries | Aryanna Frank-Imagn Images
Undefeated No. 1 Arizona starts the toughest stretch of its season tonight at No. 11 Kansas. The Wildcats haven’t exactly had an easy schedule, they’re 6-0 against top-25 teams, and now they face ranked opponents in six of seven games — though just one is on the road after this matchup (at No. 8 Houston).
Freshman Brayden Burries has emerged as Arizona’s leading scorer, averaging nearly 21 points over his last four games. The Wildcats have six players scoring nine or more points per game. Senior Tobe Awaka is dominating the boards, grabbing 12+ rebounds in three of four games and upping his average to 9.9 per night.
Kansas star freshman and potential No. 1 NBA Draft pick Darryn Peterson has cooled off recently, failing to score 20 points in his last four games, including a season-low 14 on 5-12 shooting in Saturday’s win over Utah. Still, the Jayhawks are playing their best basketball of the season and have won seven straight.

3. Scouting Report
Hornets on NBA-Best 9-Game Winning Streak, Adebayo Might Not Have Much Help Today

Kon Knueppel | Sam Sharpe-Imagn Images
Hornets G Kon Knueppel (vs. Pistons)
The Pistons are one of the best defensive teams in the NBA, but the Hornets have won nine in a row and Knueppel has played a big role in the second half of that streak. He’s averaged over 22 points per game over his past five and had eight, four and nine rebound-efforts in the last three. The Pistons shut down the Knicks to the tune of just 80 points their last time out and allowed only 77 to the Nets two games before that — but gave up 124 and 126 in between.
Points: 17.5 (18.9 - 23, 24, 17, 13, 34), Reb: 4.5 (5.5 - 8, 4, 9, 6, 4), Ast: 3.5 (3.6 - 4, 2, 2, 4, 3)
DET - W1 (7-3 L10) | Points Allowed: 109.7 (3rd), Reb Allowed: 41.3 (4th), Ast Allowed: 23.0 (1st)
76ers C Joel Embiid (at Trail Blazers)
Embiid is on a torrid pace, averaging over 33 points over his past 10 games. He made double-digit free throws in five of those efforts, giving him a higher ceiling of late. Embiid scored 33 and added nine rebounds in just 33 minutes in his last game. After allowing 127 and 130 twice at the end what was a six-game losing streak, the Trail Blazers have won two in a row after giving up 115 in each.
Points: 29.5 (26.6 - 33, 35, 24, 40, 37), Reb: 8.5 (7.5 - 9, 7, 5, 11, 5), Ast: 4.5 (3.9 - 3, 7, 3, 4, 8)
POR - W2 (4-6 L10) | Points Allowed: 118.0 (23rd), Reb Allowed: 43.4 (12th), Ast Allowed: 27.0 (16th)
Heat C Bam Adebayo (vs. Jazz)
With Heat leading scorer Norman Powell hobbled (he left yesterday’s game with lower back tightness) and Tyler Herro and his 21.9 points per outing missing the past two matchups, Adebayo will likely need to step up for Miami. The Jazz might be the worst defensive team in the NBA, but they regularly force a high-scoring pace with the sixth-most points per game in the league (one behind the Heat). Adebayo scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in Miami’s 147-116 win in Utah about two weeks ago.
Points: 20.5 (18.1 - 22, 16, 16, 20, 21), Reb: 10.5 (9.8 - 8, 7, 14, 9, 11), Ast: 2.5 (2.7 - 3, 1, 1, 3, 1)
UTA - L2 (2-8 L10) | Points Allowed: 126.7 (30th), Reb Allowed: 44.9 (22nd), Ast Allowed: 30.6 (30th)

In the News
The Quad God had to beat his Japanese counterpart to win gold for the U.S. in the final event of the team figure skating competition — and he delivered. Ilia Malinin wasn’t perfect, he had a wobble, but his routine’s difficulty was high enough that he still outscored Japan’s Shun Sato, who gave a near-flawless effort. Malinin wasn’t even slated to skate in yesterday’s team event but stepped in when the competition got tight, and the U.S. ended up winning by just one point.
But it was Breezy Johnson who won the first gold of the Olympics for Team USA, becoming only the second American woman to win the downhill in the Games. The other, Lindsey Vonn, crashed yesterday and had to be airlifted to a hospital. The 41-year-old tore her ACL just nine days before competing. Johnson had crashed on this same mountain prior to the 2022 Beijing Games, which kept her out of the Olympics.
The Italians are off to a record-breaking start at their home Olympics, winning the most medals the country has ever earned in a single day at a Winter Games with six. Italy had a silver and five bronze medals, including Sofia Goggia’s third-place finish in the downhill.
What was your favorite Super Bowl commercial? The Jurassic Park remake and Ben Affleck’s star-studded Dunkin’ Donuts Boston-themed sitcom got high early marks. State Farm had been teasing its ad for weeks leading up to the Big Game and went with Keegan-Michael Key and Danny McBride singing a “Livin’ on a Prayer” parody.
Back on the Anthony Davis injury beat, Wizards general manager Will Dawkins said no decision has been made about Anthony Davis playing again this season — a day after a report said he would likely be shut down. “During All-Star break, [Davis] takes another visit for a doctor. And that's a big appointment for us to kind of see where his progress is at,” Dawkins said.
