1. Leading Off

The Super Bowl spread hasn’t budged, as the Seahawks are still 4.5-point favorites (-112) over the Patriots (-108). Bettors are sticking with Seattle, as 69% of the money and 63% of the bets are with Seahawks, who were 14-5 against the spread this season compared to the Patriots’ 14-6 mark.

The winning quarterback has earned the game’s MVP in five of six years, with the outlier being Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who took home the award in the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI victory. Going further back, quarterbacks have won in 14 of the past 19 seasons, which is likely why Seattle’s Sam Darnold leads the way at +115 with Drake Maye right behind him at +230. Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is next (+550) and his teammate, running back Kenneth Walker III (+850), is the only other non-longshot.

In Seattle’s Super Bowl win in 2014, linebacker Malcolm Smith earned the trophy in the 43-8 blowout, becoming the first defensive player to get the award since Buccaneers safety Dexter Jackson in 2003 — and the first linebacker since the Ravens’ Ray Lewis in 2001. A trio of Seahawks defenders (DeMarcus Lawrence, Leonard Williams and Nick Emmanwori) along with Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones have the top odds on that side of the ball at +10000 despite two strong defenses and the lowest points total in 10 years (45.5).

Even more surprisingly, they’re all tied odds-wise with Seattle kicker Jason Myers despite nobody in the position ever winning the award.

2. Game of the Day

Toppin on Scoring Run for Texas Tech as Kansas Comes to Town with Peterson’s Status Unclear

JT Toppin | Mike Watters-Imagn Images

No. 14 Kansas watched a 20-point halftime lead over No. 13 BYU shrink to four with about a minute to play on Saturday, but the Jayhawks held on for an important eight-point win to improve to 6-2 in the Big 12. No. 11 Texas Tech followed up its upset over No. 6 Houston with its first loss to an unranked team all season in its 88-80 defeat at UCF (which, to be fair, is now 17-4 and 6-3 in the Big 12 and probably should be ranked).

Kansas’s freshman sensation Darryn Peterson scored 18 points in just 20 minutes against BYU. He left the game a few minutes into the second half due to cramps, which coincided with BYU’s run. The Jayhawks have been very cautious all season with the all-but-assured top-5 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, so he’ll likely be pulled tonight at any sign of discomfort. Peterson has played 27 or fewer minutes in three of four.

Texas Tech forward JT Toppin has been on a tear, scoring 27+ in four of five games with the outlier being a 22-point effort in limited minutes in a blowout win over Baylor. Toppin has also gone over his 10.9 rebounding average in seven of nine contests.

3. Scouting Report

Sharks’ Celebrini Has 2 Games Before Olympics, Miller is Heading Up for Streaking Hornets

Macklin Celebrini | Bob Frid-Imagn Images

Sharks C Macklin Celebrini (at Blackhawks)

  • The 19-year-old is about to live a dream by playing for Canada in the Olympics, so he’s likely to use his final two games before heading to Italy to hone his game for the upcoming gold-or-bust situation. Celebrini is fourth in the NHL in points and notched at least one in three straight (seven combined points) before getting shut out in a loss to Calgary on Saturday — but he still had five shots. The Sharks have lost two in a row for just the fourth time since starting the season with six straight losses, while the Blackhawks are on a five game losing streak and have been defeated in eight of 10.

  • Shots (4+): -106 (3.5 - 5, 1, 4, 4, 5), Points: TBA (1.5 - 0, 1, 4, 2, 0), Anytime Goal: +140 (0.5 - 0, 0, 1, 2, 0)

  • CHI - L5 (2-6-2 L10) | Goals Allowed: 3.15 (19th), Shots Against: 29.7 (27th), Save Percentage: .898 (14th)

Hornets F Brandon Miller (vs. Pelicans)

  • The Hornets have won six straight games and Miller scored 20+ in each of them, leading his team in points in five. In fact, Miller has netted 20+ in 10 in a row after a below-average three-game stretch in mid-January. Along with his scoring run, he’s added 6+ rebounds in four of five games, averaging 6.8 per contest. Charlotte is suddenly in the playoff hunt, just 1.5 games behind Atlanta for the final play-in spot in the East, and Miller has had a lot to do with the success. The Pelicans have lost 10 in a row and only two teams in the NBA give up more points per game.

  • Points: 22.5 (20.8 - 26, 23, 26, 30, 21), Reb: 5.5 (4.6 - 8, 6, 1, 8, 11), Ast: 3.5 (3.4 - 2, 2, 3, 2, 7)

  • NOP - L1 (4-6 L10) | Points Allowed: 120.0 (28th), Reb Allowed: 45.5 (24th), Ast Allowed: 28.6 (28th)

UNC F Caleb Wilson (vs. Syracuse)

  • The freshman has scored 20+ points in 11 of his past 13 games dating back to early December, including in five of six. Wilson has fallen below his rebounding average in five straight games after grabbing 12+ in four of five, but he should get a lot of opportunities tonight with Syracuse allowing the 278th-most rebounds per game in college basketball. The Tar Heels have won three straight since falling to 2-3 in ACC play, while the Orange just ended a four-game losing streak with a win over Notre Dame.

  • Points: 19.5 (20.8 - 22, 20, 22, 17, 26), Reb: 8.5 (9.9 - 6, 4, 7, 5, 9)

  • SYR - W1 (5-5 L1) | Points Allowed: 70.0 (80th), Reb Allowed: 36.1 (278th), Ast Allowed: 13.0 (157th)

5. Overtime

In the News

  • CBS Sports runs through eight records that have at least a slight chance of being broken in Super Bowl LX. The biggest one: The Patriots could break their tie with the Steelers at six Super Bowl wins (though it turns out that’s not enough to get a coach into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot). He’s one of the best wide receivers in the league, but the biggest reach is Jaxon Smith-Njigba surpassing Jerry Rice’s record of 215 yards in the big game. Read the full list here.

  • Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak reportedly picked the Raiders over the Cardinals and is set to be announced by Las Vegas as its next head coach after the Super Bowl. Kubiak was considered one of the marquee options of the NFL’s coaching carousel but didn’t end up with one of the top opportunities. The 38-year-old was the Saints offensive coordinator in 2024 before moving to the Seahawks last year. The Raiders have the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft and are widely expected to select Indiana’s Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza, which could have been what got Kubiak to Vegas.

  • LeBron James was selected as a reserve for the NBA’s February 15th All Star game, extending his record to 22 years. Who was snubbed? The Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard won’t get to play in front of his home fans at the Intuit Dome and the Rockets’ Alperen Sengun wasn’t rewarded for averaging 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

  • The defending champion Gators look like they’re ready to make another March run, as they dismantled No. 23 Alabama 100-77 for their 11th win in 13 games. Florida started its title defense at just 5-4, but have beaten four ranked teams since and are just one game back of Texas A&M for the top spot in the SEC. Alabama is 1-2 since its controversial addition of former professional player Charles Bediako, averaging 12 points per game below its season average in that stretch.

  • Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest man to complete tennis’s Career Grand Slam with a four-set win over Novak Djokovic, who was vying for his record-extending 25th major win (he currently holds the men’s record and his tied with Margaret Court for most in the sport). Alcaraz lost the first set 2-6 but came back with easy wins in the second and third before taking the fourth set 7-5. He’s a year and 240 days young than Rod Laver, who previously held the mark, and about a year and a half younger than countryman Rafael Nadal, who accomplished the feat at the 2010 U.S. Open.
